QUIL OTONITY – ILLIT has released a concept video titled “BURNING” for their fifth mini-album, “BREAK EVEN,” which is set to be released on October 26.

The video was uploaded to the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel on the evening of September 28. It captures the moment when the members realize just how much emotion they’ve poured into a relationship that has given them nothing in return.

The video clip begins with thunder and lightning striking a parched sky. Yunah appears with a wound on her face and an angry glare, while Minju shifts from a cold stare to swinging a chainsaw. Wonhee wipes away tears before smashing a teddy bear, while Iroha uses a hammer to smash objects around her.

Instead of a heavy beat, the film is accompanied by classical music that grows more thunderous as time goes on, accompanied by dialogue such as “This time it’s really over” and “This is a waste of time.” The words “FOUR STORIES” also appear on screen.

The album title borrows an economic term for the break-even point, where there is neither loss nor gain. With this title, ILLIT declares that they will no longer pour their hearts and time into someone who does not reciprocate.

That sentiment reaches its peak in the title track “Catch Me,” a warning to someone who misinterprets ordinary acts of kindness as something more.

 

The album’s title is taken from the economic term “break-even point,” which refers to a situation where there is neither profit nor loss. In the context of ILLIT’s story, this meaning is applied to the realm of romance: an honest declaration to stop pouring time, energy, and emotions into a one-sided relationship that does not offer a balanced reciprocity.

In previous releases, the ILLIT characters were portrayed as bold, outspoken teenagers who didn’t hesitate to approach the people they liked.

On the album *BREAK EVEN*, they take a much firmer stance. They no longer want to stick around just because they feel they’ve “already invested so much emotion.” ILLIT chooses to issue a stern warning to those who are cold or half-hearted, then walks away to respect themselves.

It contains a bold warning to someone who led them to mistake ordinary kindness for true love, until finally ILLIT chooses to end the relationship unilaterally.

Overall, this comeback marks a phase of maturity for ILLIT, as they transition from simply “falling head over heels in love” to becoming teenagers who know when to stop and draw a line when their love isn’t reciprocated.
