QUIL OTONITY – SM Entertainment has announced a more stringent legal response to online content targeting two of its leading artists, YoonA of Girls’ Generation and Winter of aespa.

On September 28, the agency released separate statements addressing what it called illegal AI-generated images involving YoonA and the ongoing spread of malicious posts targeting Winter.

According to SM Entertainment, the agency has filed criminal complaints against individuals suspected of creating and distributing AI-manipulated images using YoonA’s likeness without her consent.

The company also stated that it is gathering additional evidence regarding the creation and distribution of such material, as well as the false information associated with it.

At the same time, SM issued a stern warning regarding content targeting Winter, stating that it intends to take legal action against individuals responsible for posts containing false information, defamation, insults, malicious slander, personal attacks, and sexual harassment.

The agency said that evidence is being gathered through its own monitoring efforts and reports submitted by fans via KWANGYA 119.

 

SM emphasized that it intends to respond firmly to violations that affect the rights and reputations of its artists.

This announcement highlights the entertainment company’s ongoing efforts to address harmful online activity involving its artists, particularly as manipulated digital content and anonymous social media posts have become increasingly difficult for celebrities and agencies to manage.

In its statement regarding YoonA, SM Entertainment said it recently identified additional cases involving AI-generated images that manipulated the artist’s appearance without her consent.

The agency stated that false information based on these images has also been circulating on social media and online communities. SM said that evidence gathered through fan reports and its internal monitoring has been used to file criminal complaints.

The company also emphasized that it will pursue this matter without leniency or out-of-court settlements. The agency further warned that liability may extend beyond those who originally created the manipulated content.

According to SM, creating or uploading illegally manipulated material without the artist’s consent may violate applicable laws, while sharing, reposting, or redistributing such content may also lead to legal issues depending on the circumstances.
